Macro photography is a technique allowing the photographer to capture small objects. This may include a variety of subjects such as flowers, insects, rain drops or even, quite literally, a postage stamp.

A true macro lens has the ability to capture an image at a 1:1 ratio. This means the subject is captured on film or the digital sensor at its actual size.
